On Wednesday evening the VS angels took to the stage in Paris to mark the 22nd Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since the first was held in New York in 1995. Amongst the walkers were sister act, Gigi and Bella Hadid, accompanied by good friend Kendall Jenner making her second appearance in the show since her VS debut last year.
Victoria’s Secret veterans Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima were also present as well as Taylor Hill, Martha Hunt and Romee Strijd who have all walked in previous shows. Jasmine Tookes, who became an Angel in 2015, was lucky enough to wear the $3,000,000 Fantasy Bra formally worn by Lily Aldridge in 2015 and Adriana Lima the year before her.
Bella Hadid made her first appearance on the prestigious runway and was lucky enough to have her sister for support, telling reporters before the show that Gigi was her ‘comfort blanket.’ Coincidentally – or not – the brunette beauty walked the runway during the performance of her ex-boyfriend, The Weekend. However, it seems their recent split was amicable with Bella explaining: “I’m excited for him too, it’s his second show. We’re going to have fun out there; it’s going to be amazing.’ Former model and proud mother, Yolanda Foster, attended the show to show her support, tweeting: ‘Gods timing is perfect. Thank you to my girls for bringing me to Paris to witness this.” Other celebs in attendance included Made in Chelsea star’s Millie McIntosh who attended with new flame Hugo Taylor, and model Lottie Moss.
The performers joining The Weekend on stage were Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, both making their debut to the show. Gaga appeared to be delighted at the thought of sharing the runway with the Hadid sisters, captioning a photo she shared with her 19.8 million Instagram followers: “Ok on a scale 1-10 how many men (or women) wish they were me right now. Caught in Babe Sandwich.” The Angel’s walked to songs from GaGa’s new album, Joanne as well as The Weekend’s Starboy and some of Bruno Mars’s classics. The stage has formerly seen the likes of Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Kanye West.
Saving the ‘best till last’, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio closed the show leaving little to the imagination in slinky, push up lingerie both donning a pair of angel wings. During the performance, however, fans took to Twitter to slate the ‘skin and bones’ models, with one user sharing a photo of Gigi captioned: ‘Don’t understand how girls find them inspirational.’ Another user wrote: ‘I want a girl with an actual booty to model Victoria’s Secret panties. Is that too much to ask?’
Despite this, supermodel Bella Hadid later shared a Snapchat of herself, Kendall and Bella eating burgers, announcing: “Kenny is the MVP. She set up all of this so we could eat burgers tonight after the show.” Similarly, slender model Martha Hunt explained that whilst she likes to cut down on sugar and bread before the show, “You need to eat bad food in moderation. It’s good for peace of mind.”
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2016 will be available to watch in the US on the 5th of December whilst UK fans will have to wait until the 12th.
